Oxaliplatin BP 50 & 100 mg

Oxaligen

Oxaligen Injection is a chemotherapy medication used to treat colorectal cancer, either alone or in combination with other anticancer drugs. It contains Oxaliplatin, a platinum-based chemotherapy agent that works by damaging cancer cell DNA, preventing their growth and replication.

Mechanism of Action:

Oxaligen (Oxaliplatin) forms platinum-DNA crosslinks inside cancer cells, disrupting their ability to replicate and ultimately causing cell death. It is particularly effective in treating advanced or metastatic colorectal cancer when combined with other chemotherapy agents like Fluorouracil (5-FU) and Leucovorin (FOLFOX regimen).

Administration:

  • Administered as an intravenous (IV) infusion under medical supervision.
  • The dosage and treatment schedule depend on cancer type, stage, patient’s overall health, and response to therapy.
  • Often used in combination with other chemotherapy drugs to enhance effectiveness.

Possible Side Effects:

  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Peripheral neuropathy (tingling, numbness, or cold sensitivity in hands and feet)
  • Fatigue and weakness
  • Low blood cell counts (increased risk of infections, anemia, or bleeding)
  • Diarrhea
  • Liver function changes
  • Allergic reactions (rare but possible)

Precautions:

  • Patients should avoid exposure to cold temperatures, as cold sensitivity is a common side effect.
  • Regular blood tests are required to monitor blood cell levels and organ function.
  • Caution is advised in patients with pre-existing nerve disorders or kidney problems.
  • Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Oxaligen Injection is a key part of colorectal cancer treatment, helping to slow disease progression and improve survival rates when administered under the supervision of an oncologist.
